The Creekside Retirement Housing complex, which grew out of a sub-committee of the WCA, has won the 2013 HIA Special Purpose Housing Award.
Costas Constructions Pty Ltd was presented with the award in front of 850 industry peers and colleagues at the HIA CSR Victorian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards at Crown.
The HIA Awards are held in the highest regard within the Australian and Victorian residential construction industry and have grown to become the state’s most distinguished Housing Awards program.
As the winner of the Victorian Special Purpose Housing Award, the project will go on, as a finalist, to compete against similar projects in the 2014 HIA CSR Australian Housing Awards in Queensland in May 2014.
The retirement living development comprises five individually designed villas, each with two-bedrooms, a single-car garage and its own north-facing courtyard. “Although the site had quite a fall, this was overcome by clever excavation and use of retaining walls,” the judges said. “With the ageing population, it is refreshing to see a development like this one positioned in a well-established area. The individual design of each unit has adequately addressed the needs of the end user – single-level, low maintenance and open-plan living.”
