Guest speaker, Vicky Shukuroglou at WCA AGM

Guest speaker, Vicky Shukuroglou, will talk about Maintaining biodiversity and habitat in the face of urban development.
Vicky Shukuroglou is a local artist, photographer, writer, and ecologist. Much of her work involves bringing people with different knowledge, interests and perspectives into conversation — exploring how understanding shapes the way we see, value, and care for living systems.
She sees opportunities for relationships to develop, understandings to shift, and for depleted systems — natural and social — to regenerate. Working alongside engineers, land managers, Council and residents, she has helped turn conflicts around development and habitat into practical, lasting outcomes.
That same approach underpins all her activities. She founded Nillumbio, a biodiversity-focused community learning and action organisation in Nillumbik, and convenes Friends of Biodiversity Hohnes Hill, leading the ongoing care of a reserve with complex ecological management requirements.
Vicky co-authored and photographed the ACE Guide to Eucalypts Melbourne, and Loving Country: A Guide to Sacred Australia, which was shortlisted for the ABIA Awards and named by Booktopia among its Best Beautiful Books of 2020.
Bev Hanson – Very Warrandyte
Local landscape designer and environmental advocate, Bev Hanson, was celebrated at the launch of the book Bev Hanson – Very Warrandyte.
The Warrandyte Mechanics Institute was “packed to the rafters” with locals and friends who have known Bev for the last half century, landscape designers who have worked with Bev and been influenced by her approach and family.

WCA Membership
The Warrandyte Community Association Inc. (WCA) is an active residents group of the Warrandyte community. Formed in 2001 the WCA has an active membership and committee drawn from both sides of the river – Manningham and Nillumbik. The committee meets regularly with local government and residents to address planning and environmental matters as well as any community concerns.
We welcome all community members to our monthly meetings.
